Is Highland Park/ East Liberty in Pittsburgh a safe area to live?

I'll be moving to Pittsburgh here in about a month for college and I'm looking for apartments. I found one on N. Negley Ave. in that area that seems perfect, but I wanted to make sure that it would be a safe place to live before I got my hopes up. Would it be a safe place for a new college student to live?
