What animal sucks blood and opens cages?

some kind of animal came into our yard and killed our bunnies..it actually opened their cages and chased them down the yard..then it sucked their blood :( there was a mama bunny and 3 baby bunnies 1 survived:( somebody pleas tell me what animal it is and how to defend our home and animals from it
